Interim Management Committee (IMC) Chairman of Asante Kotoko, Nana Apinkra, has denied claims that a reconciliation meeting has been held between his club and Nsoatreman FC following the tragic events earlier this month.

Despite the Ghana Football Association (GFA) granting approval for the Ghana Premier League to resume, Apinkra insists that a peace process between the two clubs should have been prioritized before competitive football returns.

“They are saying we should play the match, but we haven’t seen any reconciliation efforts between us and Nsoatreman. The right thing would have been for them to form a committee and ensure that what happened does not destroy our relationship. They should have stepped in to find solutions and mend the situation before we return to action,” he said.

He further expressed uncertainty over when such a meeting might take place but maintained that Kotoko remains focused on seeking justice through the legal system.

“Up until now, we have not seen anything. We don’t know if they will do it after the funeral or at another time, but that is not our concern. Our issue is now in the hands of the government, and no one should take matters into their own hands for revenge. The law must take its course. The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has assured us, the Sports Minister has assured us, and many others have given us their word that justice will be served,” he added.

Asante Kotoko has announced that they will return to league action after the final funeral rites of their devoted supporter, Francis “Nana Pooley” Frimpong, who was tragically stabbed to death.

The Porcupine Warriors currently occupy second place on the Ghana Premier League table with 34 points from 19 games. They are set to face Legon Cities when the league resumes.
