Antoine Semenyo Wins First Trophy with Man City
Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo marked a major milestone in his career after playing the full 90 minutes in Manchester City’s 2-0 victory over Arsenal in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday.
The Black Stars attacker was a constant presence on the right flank, contributing to City’s attacking play in a tightly contested encounter. After a balanced first half, the game swung in City’s favour following the break, with Nico O’Reilly—deployed in an unfamiliar left-back role—netting twice to secure the trophy.
Semenyo nearly added his name to the scoresheet in the second half, but his curling left-footed effort narrowly missed the target.
Reacting after the final whistle, the forward expressed both gratitude and ambition as he celebrated his first piece of silverware with the club.
“First trophy of many I hope! God’s got a plan,” he told Sky Sports.
“It might not work out, you might not know why, but the answer always reveals itself.”
The triumph represents Semenyo’s maiden title since completing his move from AFC Bournemouth in January. It also sees him enter the history books as the first Ghanaian to win the competition since Michael Essien lifted it with Chelsea F.C. in 2007.
Fresh from the success, Semenyo is now expected to link up with the Ghana national football team camp in Vienna ahead of upcoming international friendlies against Austria and Germany, as preparations intensify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
