Anthony Baffoe Urges Black Stars to Rally Around Semenyo to Boost Form
Former Ghana international Anthony Baffoe has called for greater cohesion within the Black Stars, stressing that improved teamwork is key to unlocking the best version of Antoine Semenyo at international level.
Semenyo has enjoyed an impressive season with Manchester City, delivering consistent performances and goals. However, that form has yet to translate into similar output for Ghana, where he has managed just three goals in nearly five years with the senior national team.
Speaking at the German Ambassador’s Residence in Accra during a viewing event for Ghana’s friendly against Germany, Baffoe pointed to the stark contrast between Semenyo’s club setup and the current dynamics within the Black Stars squad.
“Semenyo is a top-class player, but at the moment, Black Stars are now Man City,” he said.
He explained that several key players are either unavailable or not fully fit, which has affected the team’s ability to provide the necessary support for the forward.
“So everything around him is totally different, and don’t forget, we are playing without the likes of Kudus, Kamaldeen just came back from injury.
“Thomas Partey is not 100% in shape, which is also fully understandable. They need to be in top form.
“I think Jordan had a very good match. He was very, very active on the pitch. So if those guys are really also in shape, I think Semenyo also will be good. They’ll provide better balls for him,” Baffoe added.
Despite netting 15 goals across competitions this season, Semenyo struggled to influence games during Ghana’s recent international window, which saw defeats to Austria and Germany.
Drawn in a challenging Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama, Ghana will be hoping improved chemistry and sharper attacking play can help maximize the potential of players like Semenyo on the global stage.
