Amin Lamptey Urges Greater Support for Ghanaian Boxers
Mohammed Amin Lamptey, Director of Communications for the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), has called for urgent support and systemic reform to help Ghanaian boxers reach their full potential on the global stage.
Ghana has produced world-renowned boxers such as Azumah Nelson, Ike Quartey, and Joshua Clottey, but Lamptey warned that the next generation may not achieve similar heights unless they receive greater support.
Speaking during an interview on Sportsnite on Asempa FM, Lamptey praised the natural abilities of Ghanaian fighters but lamented the persistent challenges that hinder their growth and success.
“Ghanaian boxers are naturally gifted, but the challenge lies in the lack of support and a non-conducive environment,” he said.
Lamptey emphasized that despite the immense talent pool in the country, most boxers struggle to advance their careers due to inadequate training facilities, poor logistics, and limited access to international exposure. He stressed that without deliberate investment and infrastructure development, the country’s proud boxing legacy could fade.
