The Accra Sports Stadium will undergo major renovations following Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Chad, according to Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams.

Speaking on TV3 S on Monday, March 17, Adams emphasized the urgent need to upgrade the national stadium, citing its deteriorating condition and the necessity to bring it up to modern standards.

“I think after this game, we have to close the Accra Sports Stadium to refurbish it and bring it up to standard. The stadium has been left in a bad state,” Adams stated.

He revealed that while some improvements have already been made, more work is needed.

“We have worked on the pitch, and the coach is satisfied with it. We have also fixed the sanitary areas, dressing rooms, and air-conditioning,” he added.

Ghana is set to host Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 21, in a crucial Group I World Cup qualifier. The Black Stars are aiming for a victory to boost their chances of securing a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
