Head coach of Ghana’s national U-15 team, Yaw Preko, has affirmed that his players are fully eligible and well-prepared to compete in the upcoming CAF African Schools Football Championship, which Ghana will host from April 21 to 26, 2025.

The tournament is scheduled to be held at the University of Ghana’s Legon Sports Stadium and will feature top school teams from eight African nations, including Ghana, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Algeria, and DR Congo.

Speaking on Peace FM, Coach Preko expressed strong confidence in his team’s qualification and their ability to excel in the competition.

The majority of them — all of them — are in schools, so I think they have to be there. It is a host-and-win tournament,” he stated.

He highlighted the importance of using the home advantage and the momentum gained from their recent victory in the Mondialito tournament in Israel, where the team defeated Maccabi Tel Aviv 4-1 in the final.

“After winning that tournament, they have something to stand on. If they get the opportunity to play in the school U-15 [championship], I think they will bring more experience with what they have achieved,” Preko added. “So I am praying because we have to win that tournament. We will see how it goes.”

For Ghana, the tournament presents a golden opportunity to showcase its young talents and reinforce its standing as a powerhouse in African youth football.
