Yahaya Mohammed highlights lack of appeal for GPL’s Sponsorship Struggles
Ex Aduana Stars and Asante Kotoko player, Yahaya Mohammed says the inability of the Ghana Premier League to get a headline sponsor is due to its attractiveness.
The Ghana Premier is without a headline sponsor after betting company BetPawa withdrew its sponsorship from last season.
Speaking to Asempa FM, the former Amidaus Professional striker believes the corporate world and even players see the league unattractive due to the poor image of the league.
The Ghana Premier League at this moment is not attractive. During my days, sponsors were chasing the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to sponsor the league, and I remember that Coca-Cola was even interested in sponsoring the GHALCA Top Four tournament.” He said.
“Today, sponsors are not interested because the Premier League is unattractive. Players are interested in playing in Rwanda and Ethiopia because of the better incentives they will receive, unlike what they will earn by playing in the Ghana Premier League.
“The television coverage for the league is not good enough and all these things push away the corporate world to invest and sponsor the Premier League,” he added
Nine league matches have been played so far in the Ghana Premier League.
