“We Didn’t Find Our Rhythm”-Prosper Ogum Reflects on Kotoko’s Draw with Bechem United
Asante Kotoko head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum has admitted that his side struggled to find their rhythm during their 1-1 draw with Bechem United in matchday 26 of the Ghana Premier League, a result that has allowed Bibiani GoldStars to catch up with the Porcupine Warriors at the top of the table.
Playing in front of a packed Baba Yara Stadium, Kotoko were stunned when Darlvin Yeboah put the visitors ahead in the 69th minute, capitalizing on a quick counter-attack after a resolute defensive display from Bechem throughout the match.
Kotoko, eager to maintain their lead in the title race, kept pushing forward in search of an equalizer. Their persistence paid off in the dying moments of the match when they were awarded a controversial penalty. Midfielder Albert Amoah held his nerve and converted from the spot to salvage a point for the home side.
Speaking after the match, Coach Ogum acknowledged the tactical setup of Bechem United and his team’s inability to dictate the game.
“It was a nice game. I think Bechem came defensively to stay low and then go on counter. They tried to put a lot of men behind the ball that made it very difficult for us to penetrate,” Ogum told the press.
“We tried a few times and we were able to unlock it, but we couldn’t score. It was a good game.”
“Bechem United is a very good side but I think we didn’t find our rhythm, we didn’t find our flow and I think that is the main reason [we didn’t win].”
Kotoko now face a difficult away test against Accra Lions in their next match, knowing that any further slip-up could cost them their place at the top. Bechem United will host GoldStars in what promises to be another crucial fixture with title and top-four implications.
