Head coach of the Black Queens, Kim Lars Björkegren, says his mission is to guide Ghana as far as possible in the upcoming 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), as the team makes a long-awaited return to the continental stage.

Ghana has been drawn into a challenging Group C, which includes reigning champions South Africa, Mali, and Tanzania. The Black Queens will begin their campaign on July 7 with a high-profile clash against South Africa at the Honneur Stadium in Oudja, Morocco.

Speaking to the Ghana Football Association’s website, Coach Björkegren emphasised the importance of steady progress and long-term development over immediate outcomes.

“Our goal is to go as far as possible in WAFCON. This is a step for us,” he said.

“This marks Ghana’s first appearance at WAFCON since 2018, and the team is determined to make a strong impression under the guidance of the Swedish tactician.

“Sometimes the step goes in the right direction, and sometimes it doesn’t. But we need to keep moving and getting better every single day. That’s more important than the results today.

The Black Queens will play their second group match against Mali on July 12 and wrap up the group phase with a tie against Tanzania on July 17. Both matches are scheduled for the Berkane Stadium.

With optimism growing among supporters and solid preparations underway, Coach Björkegren and the Black Queens aim to bring pride to Ghanaian football on the continental stage.
