Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren has expressed confidence in his team’s readiness to bounce back and secure victory in their third-place playoff clash against South Africa at the ongoing 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Ghana’s dreams of reaching the final were dashed after a heartbreaking 4-2 penalty shootout loss to hosts Morocco, while defending champions South Africa succumbed to a 2-1 defeat against Nigeria in their respective semifinal.

Speaking to the media ahead of the bronze medal match scheduled for Friday, July 25, Bjorkegren admitted that the team had gone through a tough emotional period following the semifinal loss.

“We had a group of coaches, staff members, and players who were really disappointed but back on track again and focused on the next game,” he said.

Despite the setback, the Swedish tactician insists that the Black Queens are determined to end their campaign on a high note.

“We want to do the best we can to win it,” Bjorkegren added.

The third-place playoff is set to kick off at 19:00 GMT at the Stade Larbi Zaouli, where both teams will be looking to finish their WAFCON journey with a win and a place on the podium.
