Thomas Partey Set for Villarreal Move After Arsenal Exit
Ghana international Thomas Partey is on the brink of completing a move to Spanish La Liga side Villarreal CF in the ongoing summer transfer window.
The 32-year-old midfielder is set to make a return to Spanish football following the expiration of his contract with English giants Arsenal FC in June 2025, bringing an end to a five-year stint at the London-based club.
Partey has reportedly passed his mandatory medical examination and is expected to sign a two-year contract with Villarreal, which will keep him at the Estadio de la Cerámica until the summer of 2027.
A key motivation behind Partey’s decision is believed to be his desire to play UEFA Champions League football, with Villarreal expected to feature in Europe’s elite competition during the 2025/26 season.
Although the Ghanaian midfielder attracted interest from several European and Saudi Arabian clubs, he opted to return to Spain—a country where he first rose to prominence during his time with Atlético Madrid.
Villarreal are looking to strengthen their squad ahead of a busy domestic and continental campaign, and Partey’s experience and versatility are expected to play a vital role in the team’s ambitions.
During his time with the Gunners, which began in October 2020, Partey made 167 appearances, scoring nine goals.
As he prepares to embark on this new chapter, the Black Stars midfielder will be aiming to reassert his presence in La Liga and help Villarreal make a strong impact both domestically and in Europe.
