Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko has expressed his frustration following his team’s narrow 1-0 defeat to Heart of Lions in an outstanding Week 22 fixture of the Ghana Premier League on Wednesday.

The game, played at the Kpando Sports Stadium, saw the Yellow and Mauve side fall short despite a competitive first-half performance, with their hosts clinching victory through a second-half set-piece goal.

Speaking to Medi TV in a post-match interview, Coach Tanko voiced his disappointment over Medeama’s inability to capitalize on key moments, particularly in the first half.

“The game was a really hard game, and I think when you look at chances created, we had our chances in the first half to score, but we didn’t make use of them. Then we conceded a goal through a set piece. It’s really painful. In all, they won 1-0, so we take it like that,” he said.

The former Ghana international added, “I’m disappointed. Like I said, in the first half, we could have scored one or two, and we couldn’t make use of our chances. So, definitely I’m sad about the result.”

The loss sees Medeama SC remain in fifth position on the Ghana Premier League table with 41 points—nine points adrift of leaders Bibiani Gold Stars.

Medeama’s next fixture presents a significant opportunity for redemption as they prepare to face the league leaders. A win in that match would reduce the gap to just six points and reignite their title ambitions.

Coach Tanko will be hoping his side bounces back quickly from the setback and shows greater efficiency in front of goal in the upcoming crucial clash.
