Sports Minister Confirms No Budget Allocation for Supporters and Media in Black Stars’ World Cup Qualifiers
Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams has confirmed that the approved budget for the Black Stars’ upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers does not include any provisions for fans or media representatives.
The Black Stars are currently in N’Djamena, Chad, where they will take on Les Sao at the Stade Olympique Maréchal Idriss Déby Itno on Thursday, September 4, before returning to Accra to host Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium on September 8.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, September 2, the Minister disclosed that his office had carefully reviewed the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) proposed $2 million budget and cut down on specific items before settling on an approved figure of $1.3 million.
Adams clarified that the funds will strictly cover the team’s operational and technical needs, ruling out any financial allocation for supporters or media coverage.
“We don’t have budget for supporters,” he said in an interview with Sporty FM.
“Anyone who comes thinking there is a budget [for fans], not a pesewa is in the budget for supporters. No provision for supporters and no provision for the media.”
Meanwhile, head coach Otto Addo is expected to conduct the team’s final training session on Wednesday as preparations intensify for the opening fixture against Chad.
The Black Stars, who have made four previous World Cup appearances, currently lead Group I with 15 points, three ahead of Comoros, who face Mali on Matchday 7.
