Semenyo, Ayew, Jerome Opoku and other Ghanaian players shine during weekend action
Most Ghanaian players playing top flight football performed well for their various clubs in Europe. Nkrataasem brings you a wrap of some outstanding performances of players who flew the flag of Ghana high this weeked.
ENGLAND
In England, Jordan Pierre Ayew played about 10 minuted and scored a late goal for Leicester City against Ipswich Town to secure a point for them. Abdul Fatawu Issahaku also played 90 minutes for the Foxes.
In-form Antoine Semenyo scored his fourth goal of the season for AFC Bournemouth against Manchester City as the Cherries won 2-1 at the Vitality Stadium.
Thomas Teye Partey played 86 minutes of Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat to Newcastle at the St. James Park.
Tariq Lamptey was in the bench for Brighton and Hove Albion in their 2-1 defeat to Liverpool while Kamaldeen Sulemana was not in the squad for Southampton.
In the Championship, Brandon Thomas-Asante played 84 minutes for Coventry in their 3-0 win over Middlesbrough. Kwadwo Baah gave an assist in Watford’s 6-2 win over Sheffield Wednesday. Amankwah Forson was in action for Norwich while Joseph Wollacot was in post for Crawley Town as they beat Maidenhead United 2-1 in a cup game.
SPAIN
Inaki Williams played the entire game for Athletic Bilbao as they shared points with Real Betis. He created four big chances.
FRANCE
Alidu Seidu’s Stade Rennes lost 4-0 to Gideon Mensah and Elisha Owusu’s AJ Auxerre. Gideon Mensah had the most tackles and most dribbles in the game.
Augustine Boakye and Dennis Appiah featured for Saint Ettiene as they beat Strasbourg 2-0.
Andre Ayew and Emmanuel Afriyie Sabbi helped Le Havre beat Montpieller 1-0.
Mohammed Salisu and Ernest Nuamah could not feature for Monaco and Lyon respectively due to injuries.
NETHERLANDS
Ibrahim Osman came off the bench to score the goal that sealed Feyenoord’s 3-2 comeback win over AZ Alkmaar.
TURKEY
Jerome Opoku scored from the penalty spot for Istanbul Basaksehir as they lost 3-2 away lat Konyaspor. Joseph Attamah Larweh played all minutes for Kayserispor while Yaw Ackah was changed on in the second half. Prince Obeng Ampem played 90 minutes for Eyupspor in their 2-0 home win against Hatayspor.
BELGIUM
Christopher Bonsu Baah played 89 minutes for KRC Genk while Lawrence Agyekum and Abu Francis starred in Cercle Brugge’s 2-0 home win over Sporting Charleroi.
Majeed Ashimeru played 39 minutes for Anderlecht.
