CEO of Cabic Boxing Promotions & Management, Mr. Ivan Bruce Cudjoe, has affirmed that Olympic bronze medalist Samuel Takyi is fully justified in turning down a proposed fight with fellow Ghanaian boxer Joseph Commey, also known as ‘Jaguar’.

According to the experienced promoter, Takyi and Commey are on entirely different levels in their professional boxing journeys.

Cudjoe pointed out that Takyi, with a flawless professional record of seven wins in seven fights, has ambitions of becoming a world champion. In contrast, Commey, who won a silver medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, has only two professional bouts to his name—though both were victories.

Speaking during an interview on Asempa FM’s SportsNite Show with Kobby Stonne, Mr. Cudjoe emphasized that the significant gap in experience and ring exposure is the core reason why Takyi is not interested in the matchup. He stated that Takyi’s focus is on climbing the global boxing ladder and facing opponents who will push him closer to a world title.

“The difference in their bouts is significant,” he explained. “Takyi has more experience and is on a different level. He is focused on becoming a world champion, not just taking fights for the sake of it.”

Mr. Cudjoe, who is also the owner of Travel Matters and Idrowhyt Events Center, noted that there is a growing need for structure and discipline within Ghana Boxing. He emphasized that promoters must play a crucial role in guiding talented boxers toward worthy challenges that build their international credibility.

He also revealed his interest in contesting the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) Presidential position, outlining his vision to revamp the sport by encouraging boxers to aspire toward continental and global titles. He added that he is ready to support Takyi in his journey if the boxer stays committed and focused.

Meanwhile, Takyi, known in the ring as the “Ring Warrior,” made it clear that his ambitions go beyond Ghana and Africa.

“I want to fight the likes of Keyshawn Davis, because that is my focus, and I am looking beyond Ghana and Africa,” he said.

Keyshawn Davis, who has held the WBO lightweight title since February 14, 2025, is recognized as one of the top names in the division. As an amateur, Davis secured silver medals at the 2019 Pan American Games, the 2019 World Championships, and the 2020 Summer Olympics.

Takyi’s stance signals a boxer determined to chase world glory rather than engage in domestic rivalries that do not serve his long-term goals.
