Ghanaian midfielder Salis Abdul Samed has officially ended his loan spell with English Championship side Sunderland AFC, following the club’s triumphant return to the Premier League for the 2025/26 season.

The 25-year-old joined Sunderland on a season-long loan from Ligue 1 outfit RC Lens, aiming to gain consistent playing time and contribute to the Black Cats’ push for promotion.

During his time in England, Salis featured in 11 matches, starting in three and accumulating 283 minutes on the pitch.

Despite his limited game time, the coaching staff at Sunderland were reportedly pleased with his professional attitude and consistency, noting that his role behind the scenes contributed to the team’s overall performance.

However, as the club prepares for the challenges of top-flight football, Sunderland has chosen not to pursue a permanent deal, allowing Salis to return to parent club RC Lens.

Now back in France, the former Clermont Foot midfielder faces a decision on the next phase of his career. With competition for midfield places at Lens, Salis may seek a new environment where he can play more regularly.
