Nations FC captain Razak Simpson has come to the defense of Black Galaxies head coach Didi Dramani following Ghana’s failure to secure qualification for the 2024 Championship of African Nations (CHAN).

Ghana’s hopes were dashed after a 3-1 defeat to Nigeria in the second leg of the CHAN qualifiers in December 2024. The loss ended the team’s chances of participating in the tournament, which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

This setback marks the first time since 2020 that Ghana will miss the CHAN tournament, a competition exclusively for players who compete in their domestic leagues.

Simpson believes the team’s failure to qualify was not due to any tactical shortcomings from the coach but rather a lack of fortune. Speaking to Kessben FM, he said:
“Everything was fine. We were just unlucky. Our coach Didi Dramani had his tactics and everything right, but luck eluded us.”

The Black Galaxies were aiming to qualify for the second consecutive edition of the CHAN tournament but fell short, with Nigeria earning the coveted spot.
