RAG Chairman George Saijah Questions GFA Over Unpaid Referees’ Allowances
Chairman of the Referees Association of Ghana (RAG), George Saijah, has launched a scathing criticism of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), questioning its commitment to the development of referees across the country.
Referees have long complained about inadequate remuneration and support, issues that continue to undermine efforts to improve officiating standards in Ghana.
Speaking in an interview on Sportsnite on Asempa FM, Saijah expressed deep frustration over the GFA’s failure to settle longstanding debts owed to referees, some dating back more than a decade.
“How can you develop referees if you don’t pay them?” he asked pointedly.
The RAG boss also questioned the use of the referee development fee that is collected as part of the league funding structure, demanding transparency and accountability from the football governing body.
“What do they use the development fee for?” he queried.
Highlighting the financial neglect referees have suffered over the years, Saijah expressed concern that debts as far back as 2014 remain unsettled.
“Why have they not paid all the old debts from 2014?” he added.
Saijah’s outburst underscores the need for urgent reforms and a renewed focus on the welfare of match officials, who play a vital role in the integrity and development of Ghanaian football.
