Rafiatu Nuhu Breaks Ghana 400m National Record at NJCAA Preliminaries
Ghanaian sprinter Rafiatu Nuhu has etched her name into the history books after setting a new national record in the women’s 400m event during the preliminary rounds of the 2024 NJCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday.
The 24-year-old blazed to victory in a stunning time of 51.46 seconds, obliterating her previous personal best of 52.73 seconds, which she had set just last month.
Nuhu’s incredible run not only rewrote Ghana’s national record but also marked a new school record for Cloud County Community College, where she is currently enrolled.
Her performance now stands as the second fastest 400m time in NJCAA history, underscoring her rapid progression and rising status among elite collegiate athletes in the United States.
A proud product of Kumasi Girls’ Senior High School, Rafiatu Nuhu has long been seen as one of Ghana’s most promising track talents. She represented the country at the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games in the Bahamas, and her current form signals a potential return to the global stage.
