Medeama SC midfielder Prince Owusu has expressed his delight after earning his maiden call-up to the Black Stars squad for the decisive 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Head coach Otto Addo named the talented midfielder among his selections for Ghana’s final group fixtures against the Central African Republic and Comoros. Owusu’s eye-catching form in the opening rounds of the Ghana Premier League is believed to have convinced the technical team, making him one of only two home-based players to make the cut.

In a video message shared via Medeama’s social media platforms, the Kumasi-born playmaker traced his journey to the national stage while promising to give his all in Ghana colours.

“I am from Kumasi and I started my career with Kotoko Babies before moving to Koforidua Suhyen and then later moved to Okwahu and Medeama SC came calling. I am an attacking midfielder and thank God, I have been invited to the national team. I thank Ghanaians for this call up and I promise to deliver. I will not disappoint Ghanaians,” Owusu said.

The 23-year-old has featured in all three of Medeama’s league fixtures this season, contributing to two victories and one defeat for the reigning champions. His creativity and work rate have been central to the club’s promising start.

The Black Stars face a high-stakes doubleheader, beginning with an away trip to Morocco to take on the Central African Republic on October 8, before returning to Accra to host Comoros four days later. Ghana needs at least one win from the two games to book a ticket to the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Owusu’s inclusion adds a fresh dynamic to Otto Addo’s squad, and fans will be eager to see if the midfielder can translate his domestic form onto the international stage.
