Otto Addo warns Black Stars to avoid complacency ahead of Central African Republic clash
Ghana head coach Otto Addo has called on his players to remain fully focused and disciplined as they prepare for their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against the Central African Republic (CAR) on Wednesday, October 8, in Morocco.
The Black Stars currently lead Group I with 19 points, placing them in a strong position to secure qualification for their fifth appearance at the global showpiece. However, Addo insists that his team must guard against overconfidence heading into the penultimate round of matches, which will also see them face Comoros in their final fixture on October 12 in Accra.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, the Ghana boss emphasized the importance of teamwork and mental focus as the side seeks to finish the campaign strongly.
“At the end, we have worked together because it’s a team sport. Individuals can make a change, but the most important thing is to work together, work to our strengths and know how to respond when things go wrong,” Otto Addo said.
He also reminded his players of the lessons from their recent struggles on the road, particularly in the narrow win over Chad, urging them not to underestimate any opponent at this stage of the qualifiers.
“Everything is in our hands, but I hope that we learnt the lesson from the last away game against Chad. It is important that we stay focused and concentrated and not think we have already won because that is a danger,” he cautioned.
With qualification within reach, Addo’s message was clear — unity, composure, and a relentless work ethic will be key to ensuring Ghana books its ticket to the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
