Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has expressed optimism about the future of Ghana’s national team following the promising displays of several young players during the 2025 Unity Cup in London.

Speaking after Ghana’s campaign in the four-nation tournament, Addo praised the attitude and potential shown by the new faces introduced into the squad, insisting that the experience has laid a strong foundation for the future of the team.

“We are always looking for the future and I think we saw some young guys can have a good career first of all and a future with the national team, and some took their chance,” the coach said.

Ghana fielded an experimental squad for the Unity Cup, giving debuts to players such as Aaron Essel, Caleb Yirenkyi and Christopher Bonsu Baah. Despite a narrow 2-1 defeat to Nigeria in the semifinal, the Black Stars showed significant improvement in the second half, with Thomas-Asante netting his first international goal.

Addo’s focus on integrating youth has been consistent since his return to the national team setup, with the Unity Cup serving as a crucial platform to test potential ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The Black Stars will next face Trinidad and Tobago in the third-place playoff on Saturday, and the coach is expected to continue providing valuable minutes to emerging talents as Ghana builds towards future competitions.
