West Ham United midfielder Mohammed Kudus has labeled the FIFA World Cup as the pinnacle of football, placing it above all other competitions, including the UEFA Champions League.

The Black Stars playmaker made his World Cup debut in 2022, delivering a standout performance despite Ghana’s early exit. Kudus scored two goals in three appearances and was named Man of the Match in Ghana’s thrilling 3-2 win over South Korea.

Reflecting on the tournament, Kudus spoke to Rising Ballers about the incredible experience.

“I think the World Cup is the best football tournament. The Champions League is up there, but the World Cup was just different in Qatar, my first time.”

He also highlighted the personal significance of the competition, especially having his loved ones in the stands.

“My family flew all the way to support, so it was an amazing feeling.”

Although Ghana failed to progress beyond the group stage, Kudus still appreciated the opportunity to compete on football’s grandest stage.

“We didn’t go as far as I would have loved us to go, but it was nice to experience the World Cup. To be part of it was great.”

Now a key figure in both club and country, the 24-year-old midfielder is focused on helping Ghana secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, especially after the disappointment of missing out on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
