Accra Hearts of Oak midfielder Mohammed Hussein has publicly apologised for his unsporting behaviour towards referee Reginald Collins Amoah following his side’s 1-0 defeat to arch-rivals Asante Kotoko in Sunday’s Super Clash at the Accra Sports Stadium.

In an official statement shared on Facebook, Hussein admitted his actions after the final whistle were inappropriate, expressing deep remorse to the Ghana Football Association (GFA), the match officials, his teammates, and the club’s supporters.

“With a heavy heart, I sincerely apologise to the GFA, the referee, my teammates, our cherished supporters, and the wider football community. What happened after the final whistle was unacceptable, and I take full responsibility for my behaviour,” he wrote.

The midfielder explained that frustration during the emotionally charged match contributed to his poor reaction, acknowledging that he let his emotions get the better of him.

“Instead of showing restraint and respect, I reacted wrongly and I regret it deeply,” Hussein added.

He further assured fans and club officials that he has learned from the experience and will strive to uphold the highest standards of professionalism in future matches.

“I am committed to making amends and proving, through my conduct going forward, that I have learned from this mistake,” he concluded.

Hussein’s apology comes amid ongoing disciplinary proceedings launched by the GFA against both Hearts of Oak and the player for post-match misconduct following their 1-0 loss to Kotoko, decided by Morifin Donzo’s first-half goal.

The midfielder’s remorseful statement has since been welcomed by sections of the club’s fan base, who have urged him to use the incident as a stepping stone toward personal and professional growth.
