Mali Coach Tom Saintfeit Outlines National Team Targets
Mali head coach Tom Saintfeit has set clear objectives for the Eagles as they continue their journey in international football.
Mali have already sealed their place at the next AFCON, but the coach admits their World Cup qualification campaign has not gone as smoothly. With crucial fixtures against Madagascar and Chad ahead, Saintfeit remains optimistic about turning their fortunes around and pushing for a playoff spot.
Speaking in an interview with Kobby Stonne on Adom TV’s Fire for Fire, the Belgian tactician revealed that his targets include securing World Cup qualification, booking a spot at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), and advancing to at least the semi-final stage of the continental competition.
“My target for Mali was to qualify for the World Cup, qualify for the AFCON and reach the semis. We have achieved qualification for the AFCON but there is a setback in the World Cup Qualifiers. We will try our best to beat Madagascar and Chad to see if we can play in the playoffs,” Saintfeit said.
The Eagles will now be looking to build on their AFCON qualification success by making a strong statement in the World Cup qualifiers.
