Head coach of Ghana’s national U-17 team, the Black Starlets, Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, has revealed plans to maintain the core of his squad following their impressive display at the WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship.

Ogum’s comments come after the Black Starlets’ strong showing at the WAFU B U-17 Championship, where Ghana finished as runners-up after a narrow penalty shootout defeat to Côte d’Ivoire.

Speaking in an interview with Asempa FM, Ogum disclosed that a large portion of the current team will be retained, while a few additional players will be scouted from across the country to strengthen specific positions.

“We will keep majority of the players or a greater chunk of the team going forward and also go nationwide to scout for a few others to join the team,” he said.

According to the coach, discussions have already been held with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) regarding the next phase of player development and recruitment.

“I have already interacted with the FA and they have asked me to bring a roadmap in scouting for certain positions,” Ogum confirmed.

The former Asante Kotoko tactician emphasized that the team’s performances at the regional tournament have been widely appreciated, and continuity will be key to sustaining their progress.

“A lot of people were happy with the performances of the team, so we will maintain majority,” he added.

The coach’s commitment to preserving the team’s core while strategically adding new talents aligns with the GFA’s long-term youth development vision, aimed at rebuilding Ghana’s dominance in youth football across Africa.
