Laryea Kingston Open to National Team Coaching Role Under Right Conditions
Former Ghana international Laryea Kingston has stated his willingness to return to the national team setup in a coaching capacity, stressing that his acceptance would depend on whether the working environment is supportive and professional.
Kingston, who was appointed head coach of the Black Starlets in April 2024 ahead of the WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship hosted in Ghana, endured a difficult spell with the team. The Starlets fell short of reaching the final after suffering a 2-1 defeat to Burkina Faso at the semifinal stage, a result that ended their hopes of lifting the trophy.
In the aftermath of that loss, Kingston stunned many by announcing his resignation from the role, bringing a premature end to his tenure with the U-17 side. Since then, he has broadened his coaching experience abroad, spending time working in the United States before taking up his current position as head coach overseeing all of Uganda’s junior national teams.
Despite his previous exit, the former Hearts of Oak winger says his commitment to Ghana remains intact. Speaking in an interview with Sporty FM, Kingston made it clear that he remains open to future opportunities with the national teams.
“I’m a Ghanaian, and anytime the opportunity comes to coach any national team, I will, and if the environment is conducive for me, I’ll take the offer,” he said.
Kingston’s comments suggest a renewed openness to serve Ghana again, provided the conditions allow him to work effectively and contribute meaningfully to the country’s football development.
