Asante Kotoko striker Kwame Opoku has expressed immense joy after guiding the Porcupine Warriors to FA Cup glory over the weekend, insisting the team could not afford to end the season without silverware.

Opoku was the hero on the day, scoring a brace to help Kotoko secure a 2-1 victory over Golden Kick FC in a thrilling final at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on Sunday. His goals came in the 17th and 90th minutes, sandwiching a brilliant equalizer by Golden Kick’s Bless Ege.

The win handed Kotoko their 10th FA Cup title and a place in the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup, providing a silver lining to a domestic campaign that saw them miss out on the league crown.

Speaking in a post-match interview with 3Sports, Opoku couldn’t hide his emotions after helping his side end the season on a high.

“I will give thanks to Almighty God for winning us this trophy. I’m very happy as a player and for my team because we can’t go trophyless for all the hard work we have put in,” he said.

“We were supposed to win the league but unfortunately we couldn’t, so we had to do something at least. So I’m very happy.”

The result not only crowned Kotoko as 2024/25 MTN FA Cup champions but also restored pride to the club after a challenging league campaign.
