Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, has officially resigned from his position as President of the West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone B, marking the end of a significant chapter in regional football leadership.

The decision comes on the heels of Okraku’s recent elevation to the role of 2nd Vice-President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), a position that demands greater continental oversight and strategic engagement.

With increased responsibilities at the CAF level and ongoing commitments as GFA President, Okraku cited the need to ensure effective focus across his roles as a key reason behind his resignation.

“Balancing the responsibilities at both the CAF and GFA levels is incredibly demanding,” a close source from the GFA revealed. “Mr. Okraku felt it was only right to vacate the WAFU role to allow someone with the full bandwidth to continue the important work in the zone.”

Reflecting on his time with WAFU Zone B, Okraku expressed deep appreciation to the team and stakeholders for their commitment and collaboration.

“It has been an honour to serve WAFU Zone B. The progress we’ve made together is a testament to the strength of unity in our region. Though I am stepping down, I remain a staunch supporter of WAFU’s vision and mission,” he said.

As he takes on broader continental responsibilities at CAF, Okraku’s experience and strategic insight are expected to benefit African football as a whole, further solidifying Ghana’s influence within the highest ranks of the sport on the continent.
