Kotoko’s Title Push on Track After Record Bechem Rout- Samba O’Neil
Asante Kotoko captain Samba O’Neil has reaffirmed the club’s determination to go all the way in the Ghana Premier League following their emphatic victory over Bechem United at the weekend.
The Porcupine Warriors were in ruthless form at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday, sweeping aside the Hunters 6-0 in their Matchday 16 fixture to underline their growing authority in the title race. O’Neil anchored the defence with composure and leadership, helping Kotoko dominate proceedings from start to finish.
Goals flowed freely for the home side, with Nigerian forward Morifing Donzo grabbing a brace, while Kwame Opoku, Hubert Gyau, Johnson Owusu Oppong and O’Neil himself added their names to the scoresheet to complete a memorable afternoon for the Kumasi giants.
Buoyed by the performance and result, the Congolese defender was quick to stress that the club’s ambitions remain firmly focused on lifting the league trophy.
“Huge congrats to the team for a massive win. The title charge is well and truly on,” O’Neil declared.
The commanding victory stands as the biggest winning margin recorded in the Ghana Premier League this season and has propelled Kotoko to the summit of the table.
Attention now turns to Matchday 17, where the league leaders will be on the road, travelling to Swedru to take on All Blacks on Sunday, January 4, as they look to maintain momentum at the top of the standings.
