Communications Director of Asante Kotoko, Samuel Sarfo Duku, says the club is committed to ensuring that their CAF Confederation Cup home games are staged at the Baba Yara Stadium despite its current unfitness to host CAF-sanctioned matches.

The 40,000-capacity stadium has been flagged for failing to meet the Confederation of African Football’s hosting standards. However, with Kotoko set to face Nigerian side Kwara United in the first preliminary round, Sarfo Duku insists work is ongoing to address the issues.

“We have been working on the pitch and the entire stadium to meet the CAF standard,” he told Asempa FM.

“We are yet to know when officials from CAF arrive in Ghana for the inspection, but we will make sure we play our games at the Baba Yara Stadium.

“With regards to cost, Kotoko has decided to support the National Sports Authority in ensuring that the stadium is up to standard, but the majority of the cost will be taken care of by the National Sports Authority [NSA],” he added.

Kotoko will host the first leg of the clash between September 19 and 21, before travelling to Nigeria for the return fixture scheduled for September 26 to 28.

The winner of the tie will progress to face Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca in the next round.
