Kotoko Cruise Past Nations FC to Revive Title Ambitions
Asante Kotoko delivered a statement performance to brush aside Nations FC 3-0 in a dominant display at the Baba Yara Stadium, easing pressure and reigniting their push in the Ghana Premier League title race.
After a patchy run of results, the Porcupine Warriors approached the clash with urgency and purpose, controlling large spells of the game and showing renewed sharpness in attack.
Their early intent paid off midway through the first half when Albert Amoah rose above his marker to power home a header in the 23rd minute, giving the hosts a deserved lead heading into the break.
Kotoko maintained their composure in the second half, dictating the tempo while limiting Nations FC’s attacking opportunities. The visitors struggled to respond as the hosts continued to probe for a second goal to seal the contest.
That moment arrived in the 80th minute when Baba was fouled in the penalty area, allowing captain Samba O’Neil to step up and calmly convert from the spot to double Kotoko’s advantage.
With the game effectively settled, Kotoko added further gloss to the scoreline deep into stoppage time. Morifing Donzo was brought down in the box and picked himself up to convert the resulting penalty, completing a comprehensive victory.
The result lifts Kotoko into third place on the league table, closing the gap on leaders Bibiani Gold Stars and keeping their title hopes alive with eight matches remaining.
For Nations FC, the defeat marks a setback as they slip down to 11th, with work to do in the remaining fixtures to steady their campaign.
