Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, alongside Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has pledged swift action to complete the long-abandoned Nyinahin Youth Resource Centre after an on-site inspection revealed alarming levels of deterioration.

The inspection, which forms part of a nationwide audit of stalled sports infrastructure, aimed to assess the remaining requirements to finish the 5,000-seat multipurpose complex, originally designed to serve as a hub for youth sports development in the Atwima Mponua District.

The delegation was received by Adutwum Sam, Sports Development Officer of the National Sports Authority (NSA) for the area, who painted a troubling picture of the centre’s current state.

“On paper, the project is 95 per cent complete, yet physically it is deteriorating,” he stated, pointing to terraces overtaken by weeds, an untended pitch, and incomplete internal spaces.

The main contractor reportedly vacated the site in November 2024 without formally handing it over, leaving significant work unfinished. Encroachment has also become a major concern due to the absence of proper boundary demarcation, with key documentation allegedly still in the possession of a former National Youth Authority (NYA) administrator.

Describing the situation as “heart-breaking,” Hon. Adams emphasized the need for urgent intervention.

“We cannot allow a facility of this scale to decay,” he said.

He revealed plans to engage the Ministry of Youth Development to “unlock whatever is necessary to move this project from 95 per cent to full completion,” stressing that the remaining work is primarily sports-specific: including pitch surfacing, floodlight installation, completion of dressing rooms, and improvement of spectator amenities.
