Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko has praised his players for their impressive display in the absence of key midfielder Prince Owusu, as the defending champions edged Nations FC 2-1 to claim their third win in four Ghana Premier League matches this season.

The 20-year-old playmaker, who has been instrumental in Medeama’s strong start to the campaign, missed the fixture after earning a surprise call-up to the Black Stars ahead of Ghana’s upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against the Central African Republic and Comoros.

Despite the youngster’s absence, Medeama showcased resilience and tactical discipline to secure the victory — a performance that delighted their head coach.

“Definitely we missed Prince [Owusu] but I think those who played did very well,” Tanko said in a post-match interview with the club’s media team. “I tell them always, anyone can start anytime, so those who started did very well and I hope it continues like this.”

Tanko’s men now sit firmly among the early-season contenders, having gathered nine points from their opening four fixtures. The coach particularly commended the efforts of Kelvin Nkrumah and Emmanuel Owusu, who stepped up to fill the creative void left by Prince Owusu’s national team duty.

With Ghana set to face the Central African Republic in Meknes, Morocco on Wednesday, October 8, and Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, October 12, Medeama’s young midfielder will be looking to impress on the international stage — while his club continues to build momentum on the domestic front.
