“I Didn’t Want Ghana in Our Group” – Ignatius Osei-Fosu on Sudan’s AFCON Qualification
Sudan’s assistant coach, Ignatius Osei-Fosu, has admitted that he was not pleased when Ghana was drawn in the same AFCON 2025 qualifying group as Sudan.
His concerns stemmed from the potential pressure and criticism from Ghanaians, given his Ghanaian roots and the presence of Sudan’s head coach, Kwasi Appiah, a former Ghanaian manager and Executive Council (EXCO) member of the Ghana Football Association.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s SportsNite show the former Medeama gaffer explained why he didn’t want Ghana in the same group.
“I didn’t like Ghana in our group because I didn’t want a situation where family and friends would call me, blaming me for Ghana not qualifying.” “It happened before when people told me I was responsible for Ghana missing out on AFCON qualification when I was back home.”
In the qualifiers, Sudan held Ghana to a goalless draw (0-0) in the group first leg before sealing their place with a 2-0 victory in the second leg being 1st runner-up, Angola topping the group leaving Ghana and Niger not qualifying
