Newly appointed Black Queens head coach, Kim Lars Bjorkegren, has  highlighted Ghana’s rich pool of football talent and expressed optimism about the team’s future.

Speaking during his unveiling at the Ghana Football Association (GFA) headquarters, the Swedish tactician acknowledged the highs and lows of football but stressed the importance of consistent effort from both players and the technical staff.

Hexpressed confidence in the team’s potential, emphasizing that hard work and dedication will yield success for Ghana’s senior women’s national team.

“Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, but I think the most important thing for me, the staff, and the players is to work hard every single day to ensure that we will be successful sooner or later,” Bjorkegren said.

“I can see so much talent in this country, so I am really sure that, in the short term, we have the potential to be successful. In the long term, I can always guarantee that we will be successful,” he added.

The Swedish coach brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously managed top women’s football teams across Europe and Asia, including FC Linköping in Sweden and Apollon Ladies FC in Cyprus.

Bjorkegren’s first assignment as Black Queens coach will be an international friendly against Morocco on February 21, 2025, in Casablanca. The match will serve as a key preparation for the team ahead of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), which has been rescheduled for July.

Ghana has been drawn into Group C alongside South Africa, Mali, and Tanzania—a tough group that will require the team to be at its best to advance.
