Hohoe United Denied Historic Home Win as Young Apostles Snatch Late Equaliser
Hohoe United were forced to settle for a point in their debut Ghana Premier League appearance at the Hohoe Sports Stadium after Young Apostles battled back to earn a 1-1 draw on Sunday.
The newly promoted side looked set to crown their homecoming with a memorable victory when Ganiu Abass struck just three minutes after the restart. The forward latched onto a low delivery at the near post and finished smartly to hand Hohoe United their first-ever Premier League goal on home turf, sending the crowd into wild celebrations.
But the visitors, determined to avoid back-to-back defeats after losing their opening fixture, kept pressing for a response. Their persistence was rewarded in the 73rd minute when Clinton Opoku unleashed a brilliant effort to restore parity and claim Young Apostles’ first point in the top flight.
The contest remained finely balanced throughout, with both sides registering six shots each and possession shared evenly. Hohoe United will, however, look back on missed opportunities as they allowed their early advantage to slip away in front of an expectant home support.
The draw leaves Hohoe still searching for their maiden league victory, while Young Apostles can take confidence from their fighting spirit on the road. Hohoe United now face a tricky away clash against Vision FC, while the Apostles prepare to welcome Dreams FC to Dormaa.
