Government Sets Aside GH₵150 Million to Support Black Stars’ 2026 World Cup Campaign
The Government of Ghana has earmarked GH₵150 million to support the Black Stars’ preparations and participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking one of the largest single investments in the senior national team ahead of a major tournament.
Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson revealed the allocation on Thursday, November 13, 2025, when he delivered the 2026 Budget Statement to Parliament. He noted that the funding underscores the state’s renewed commitment to sports development and the ambition to ensure Ghana is adequately prepared for the global showpiece.
According to Dr. Forson, the steady improvement of government backing has played a crucial role in the national team’s recent achievements.
“The government’s sustained investment in sports has yielded impressive results, with the Black Stars qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup,” he stated.
He further confirmed the exact budgetary support set aside for the team’s campaign, saying:
“An amount of GH₵150 million has been allocated for the Black Stars to participate in the World Cup.”
Ghana will discover its group-stage opponents when the official draw is held in Washington, DC, on December 5.
The expanded 48-nation World Cup—hosted across the USA, Canada, and Mexico—will feature a record prize pool of $652 million, significantly higher than the $440 million awarded at Qatar 2022.
