Ghana’s national men’s 4x100m relay team has officially qualified for the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Tokyo after recording an impressive season-best time of 38.32 seconds.
The quartet—Barnabas Aggerh, Joseph Paul Amoah, Mustapha Alufar Bokpin, and Ibrahim Fuseini—secured their qualification on Day 2 of the Guangzhou Relays in China, finishing second in their heat behind the French national team.
France, represented by Pablo Mateo, Jeff Erius, Ryan Zeze, and Aymeric Priam, edged Ghana with a time of 38.31 seconds—just one-hundredth of a second faster.
It was Ibrahim Fuseini who anchored the Ghanaian team in the final leg, producing a powerful sprint to close the race and ensure Ghana’s ticket to the prestigious global event scheduled for later this year.
This qualification marks a significant milestone in Ghana’s athletics calendar, as the relay team continues to improve and build confidence ahead of the Tokyo championship. The strong performance also reaffirms Ghana’s place among the continent’s elite sprinting nations.
With their qualification sealed, attention now turns to fine-tuning baton exchanges, race strategies, and overall execution as the team targets a strong showing on the world stage.
