Ghana U-16 Girls Thrash Malta 8-1 in UEFA Development Tournament Opener

Ghana’s U-16 Women’s National Team made a resounding statement in their opening match of the UEFA International Development Tournament, overpowering hosts Malta 8-1 at the Centenary Stadium, Ta’ Qali-Attard.

The young Ghanaian side wasted no time asserting dominance, with Seidatu Wahab breaking the deadlock in the 15th minute after a well-worked attacking move.

Malta, however, briefly found their way back into the game, equalizing in the 31st minute through a penalty. But Ghana quickly responded, with Priscilla Mensah restoring the lead just two minutes later, ensuring the Black Maidens went into the break with a 2-1 advantage.

The second half saw a relentless Ghanaian onslaught, as the team put on a stunning display of attacking football.Christiana Ashiaku was the first to strike after the restart, scoring twice in five minutes (47’, 52’) to extend Ghana’s lead to 4-1.

Midfielder Daniella Abass then stepped up, netting in the 65th and 73rd minutes as Ghana continued to dominate possession and create scoring opportunities.

With Gloria Adomako Ameaa adding her name to the scoresheet in the 82nd minute, Ghana’s lead grew to an overwhelming 7-1.

Wahab then wrapped up the sensational victory with her second goal of the night in the 89th minute, capping off a perfect start for Ghana in the tournament.

Following their emphatic victory, Ghana will now turn their attention to their next match against Ireland on March 6, aiming to maintain their winning momentum in the tournament.
