The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has joined the rest of the world in commemorating the 2025 edition of Olympic Day, celebrated globally on June 23 each year. The day recognizes the fundamental values of Olympism—Excellence, Friendship, and Respect—and encourages global unity through sports and physical activity.

In a press statement issued by GOC President Richard Akpokavie, the Committee reiterated its unwavering commitment to promoting sports development, nurturing young talent, and providing opportunities for Ghanaian athletes to excel on the international stage.

This year’s theme, “Move, Learn, and Discover,” was described by Akpokavie as a fitting summary of the essence of Olympic Day. “Through movement, we learn new skills, discover our potential, and push ourselves to new heights,” he noted.

Reflecting on the progress made in Ghanaian sports, Akpokavie emphasized the potential within the country’s youth and acknowledged the persistent challenges of infrastructure and funding. He commended the hard work of “our persevering and gritty athletes, determined coaches, and proactive, results-driven sports administrators who strive to make Ghana proud.”

The GOC also extended its appreciation to government agencies, sponsors, and development partners for their continuous support of the Olympic movement and sports growth in Ghana.

“On this day, let us reaffirm our commitment to the Olympic values and work together to build a brighter future for sports in Ghana. Let us Move with passion, Learn with determination, and Discover new heights of excellence,” the statement urged.

President Akpokavie concluded by extending warm greetings to all athletes, administrators, and stakeholders across the country: “Thank you for joining the Movement on Saturday. Inspire others to move every day as we plan the next move.”

The Olympic Day celebrations reflect the GOC’s vision of using sport as a tool for development, unity, and national pride.
