Ghana’s U-20 national team has been placed in a challenging Group A alongside West African rivals Nigeria and Benin for the upcoming WAFU Zone B U-20 Cup of Nations, scheduled to take place in Prampram from July 10 to 23, 2025.

The draw, conducted earlier this week, sets the stage for a fierce battle among three traditional powerhouses, each with a storied history in youth football. With only two teams advancing from each group to the semifinals, the stakes are high in what is expected to be a tightly contested group.

Group A:

  • Ghana

  • Nigeria

  • Benin

Group B:

  • Côte d’Ivoire

  • Burkina Faso

  • Niger

  • Togo

Originally slated for June 15–30, 2025, the tournament was rescheduled to allow participating nations additional time to finalize preparations. All matches will be held at the GFA Technical Centre in Prampram, which serves as Ghana’s premier facility for football development and elite training.

The third edition of the WAFU Zone B U-20 Championship will exclusively feature Zone B member nations, after teams from WAFU Zone A were dropped due to their failure to meet administrative and logistical deadlines for participation.

This year’s competition will serve not only as a regional bragging-rights contest but also as a crucial development platform for emerging talent ahead of the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Ghana, who last won the WAFU U-20 title in 2020, will be aiming to reclaim regional supremacy on home soil and book a spot at the continental showpiece. The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has expressed confidence in the team’s readiness, with preparations well underway at the national training camp.

The tournament is expected to draw significant local and regional attention, with scouts and fans keeping a close eye on the next generation of African football stars.
