Frederick Asare Set to Extend Contract with Asante Kotoko Despite Limited Game Time

Highly-rated Ghanaian goalkeeper Frederick Asare is on the verge of committing his future to Asante Kotoko after agreeing in principle to a contract extension with the club.

The former Accra Lions shot-stopper joined the Porcupine Warriors in 2022 on a free transfer, having played a pivotal role in guiding Accra Lions to Ghana Premier League promotion in 2021.

Despite his promising reputation, Asare has found regular minutes hard to come by at Kotoko, featuring in just 15 league matches this season.

In those appearances, the goalkeeper has managed to keep seven clean sheets while conceding 12 goals—a decent return considering his sporadic role.

Speaking to Akoma FM, Asante Kotoko Communications Director Sarfo Duku confirmed that both parties are keen to continue their relationship.

“Frederick Asare and Asante Kotoko have both agreed in principle to a contract renewal, and we will soon finalise all documents. The player, along with Samba, is really willing to continue playing for the club,” Duku stated.

Although Asare received his maiden call-up to the Ghana senior national team in 2023, he is yet to make his debut. His limited playing time in the current campaign has also seen him fall behind in the pecking order for national selection.

The renewal comes at a crucial time for Asante Kotoko, who are in the thick of the title race and looking to solidify their squad depth for the final stretch of the campaign and beyond.
