Erling Haaland’s stellar 2022/23 season has been recognised with the Best Men’s Player prize at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai.

The Norwegian scored a remarkable 52 goals in 53 appearances for Manchester City across all competitions in his debut campaign since joining from Borussia Dortmund.

Haaland said on receiving the award: “I hope to be back [from injury] really soon, because I’m getting a bit sick of not playing.”

He credited City’s manager and support staff for helping settle into life at the Etihad so smoothly. “It’s a fantastic club and I enjoy being here,” Haaland added.

The 22-year-old was in a joking mood too, admitting his phone ringtone remains the UEFA Champions League theme song.

City won that competition last season thanks in large part to Haaland’s contribution.

Though currently sidelined with a foot issue, Haaland has hit 14 Premier League goals already this term.
