Asante Kotoko midfielder Emmanuel Antwi has expressed the team’s deep sense of disappointment after failing to secure the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League title, despite leading the standings at various points during the season.

The Porcupine Warriors experienced a dramatic slump in form toward the latter stages of the campaign, eventually finishing third with 58 points—five behind champions Bibiani GoldStars. Their dip not only cost them the title but also contributed to the dismissal of head coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, who was replaced by veteran tactician Karim Zito.

Speaking to the club’s official media ahead of the MTN FA Cup final, Antwi did not shy away from acknowledging the frustration within the squad.

“We, the players, are a bit disappointed in ourselves,” Antwi admitted. “We had set a target to win both the league and the FA Cup, so not winning the league is disappointing.”

Kotoko finished the season with just one defeat in their final six matches, but it was not enough to catch up with the league leaders. Despite that setback, Antwi believes there’s still an opportunity to make amends.

“But we are still in the FA Cup final, and we have one more game to make it up to the supporters,” he added.

The Kumasi-based giants will battle lower-tier sensation Golden Kick FC in the MTN FA Cup final on Saturday, June 15, at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 17:00 GMT.

Victory in the final would not only end the season on a high for Kotoko but also secure a spot in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.
