Elisha Owusu Suspended for Mali Clash
Midfielder Elisha Owusu will be unavailable when Ghana take on Mali in their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Monday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The Auxerre midfielder picked up a booking in the Black Stars’ 1-1 draw against Chad on Thursday in N’Djamena, his second caution of the campaign, which triggers an automatic one-match suspension.
In a related development, Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has bolstered his squad with the late inclusion of Kwasi Sibo. The Real Oviedo midfielder has been rewarded with a call-up after playing a pivotal role in his club’s promotion to La Liga last season. Sibo has already featured in all three of Oviedo’s league games this term and is tipped to bring energy and ball-winning qualities to Ghana’s engine room.
Ghana remain in pole position in Group I, leading the standings with 16 points from seven matches. Madagascar follow with 13 points, while both Mali and Comoros sit on 12 points each. The Central African Republic are fifth on 5 points, with Chad bottom of the table with just a single point.
The Black Stars host Mali on Monday, September 8, aiming to cement their grip at the top and edge closer to a place at the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
