Ghana midfielder Elisha Owusu has opened up about his deep desire to represent the Black Stars at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, calling the global showpiece the pinnacle of every footballer’s dream.

The 26-year-old midfielder, who plies his trade in France with AJ Auxerre, has been a committed figure for the national team since making his debut, and despite recent setbacks, he remains determined to make a return and contribute to Ghana’s World Cup campaign.

“I train every day and work hard to try and be in the squad for the tournament next year,” Owusu said in an interview with Flashcore. “Playing for your country at the biggest stage, with everyone watching, it’s crazy, and you feel proud. It’s difficult to describe such a feeling in words.”

Owusu was a notable absentee from Ghana’s March 2025 World Cup qualifiers after picking up an injury that ruled him out of the squad. However, he has since stepped up his rehabilitation and is optimistic about returning stronger.

The Black Stars currently sit at the top of Group I in the CAF qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, following emphatic wins over Chad and Madagascar in March. Ghana is hoping to book its fifth appearance at the World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
