Desmond Ofei Tips Black Satellites Stars to Shine at 2025 U20 AFCON
Head coach of Ghana’s U-20 national team, Desmond Ofei, is backing his young charges to make a strong impression at the upcoming 2025 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt.
Speaking to CAFOnline ahead of the tournament, the optimistic coach expressed confidence in the quality and depth of his squad, noting that several players are poised to break out on the continental stage.
“We have talent across all positions — defenders, midfielders, attackers. I’d prefer not to single out individuals now, but I believe several of our players will emerge as names to remember by the end of this competition,” said Coach Ofei.
Ghana’s Black Satellites will open their Group C campaign on Friday, May 2, against DR Congo. The match is scheduled for 18:00 GMT, and will be a crucial test in a group that also includes defending champions Senegal and the Central African Republic.
With four U-20 AFCON titles to their name (1993, 1999, 2009, and 2021), Ghana is hoping to reclaim continental glory and qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Coach Ofei and his staff have been hard at work during training camp in Accra, fine-tuning tactics and preparing the players mentally and physically for the tournament’s challenges.
Expectations are high for the young Ghanaian side, and with Ofei at the helm, the Black Satellites are determined to make a deep run in Egypt.
