CAF Rejects Kotoko’s Request to Use Baba Yara Stadium for Confederation Cup Clash Against Wydad
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially turned down Asante Kotoko’s request to host their CAF Confederation Cup second-round first-leg match against Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
The decision means the Porcupine Warriors will now have to relocate their crucial fixture to the Accra Sports Stadium, as CAF ruled that the Kumasi venue does not meet the required standards to host continental matches of that level.
In a statement confirming the development, the club said:
“Management regrettably announces that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has declined the approval of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to host Kotoko’s CAF Confederation Cup clash against Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco.”
The much-anticipated encounter is scheduled for Sunday, October 19, with kick-off at 15:00 GMT.

The decision is a blow to the club and its fans, who had been hoping to enjoy home advantage in Kumasi. The Baba Yara Stadium has traditionally served as Kotoko’s fortress in both domestic and continental competitions.
Following Bibiani Gold Stars’ elimination from the CAF Champions League in the first round, Kotoko now stand as Ghana’s only remaining representative in continental inter-club competitions.
