Brandon Thomas Asante Hits 10th Goal as Coventry City Return to Winning Ways
Ghanaian forward Brandon Thomas Asante was once again the hero for Coventry City, netting his 10th league goal of the season to guide the Championship leaders to a commanding 3-1 victory over Sheffield United on Tuesday night.
The win, staged at the Coventry Building Society Arena, saw the Sky Blues bounce back in style after suffering their first defeat of the campaign to Wrexham over the weekend.
It was the visitors who struck first through Sam MacCalum in the 25th minute, piling early pressure on Frank Lampard’s side. However, Coventry responded strongly after the break with a dominant second-half performance.
Japanese winger Tatsuhiro Sakamoto brought the hosts level in the 49th minute, finishing off a precise assist from defender Bobby Thomas, who later turned goalscorer himself — firing home on the hour mark to give Coventry the lead.
As Sheffield United pushed for a late equalizer, Brandon Thomas Asante stepped up once more, sealing all three points deep into stoppage time after a fine team move initiated by Haji Wright.
The goal marked Thomas Asante’s 10th strike of the season, underlining his importance to Coventry’s promotion charge and making him Ghana’s most prolific scorer in Europe so far this campaign.
The 25-year-old’s consistency in front of goal has earned widespread praise, as Coventry continue to lead the English Championship table, extending their gap at the top and maintaining their dream of a Premier League return under manager Frank Lampard.
